Lithographic limestone deposited in a quiet, oxygen-poor lagoon. The lack of oxygen prevented decay and scavenging, producing some of the finest fossil preservation on Earth.
Archaeopteryx (the famous feathered dinosaur-bird), fish, horseshoe crabs with death-march trails, pterosaurs, and crustaceans.
German fossils are legally collected but high-value vertebrate material may fall under cultural heritage rules. Archaeopteryx specimens are national treasures and not commercially available. Most market material is fish, crinoids, and invertebrates with proper German quarry documentation.
